U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa District hosted a combined tabletop exercise for Keystone Dam on Tuesday June 16, 2026. Northeastern State University faculty attended this training to create educational opportunities for Emergency Management students. This event included communicating USACE project Information on shared risk responsibility, flood threat recognition warning and dissemination, providing a test of procedures, methods to reduce flood risks through deliberate emergency management planning, and response actions. Today’s event highlighted the importance of networking with key community County and City Emergency Managers, Mayors, City Managers, Public Works Directors, Police Chiefs, Fire Chiefs, Hospital Emergency Managers, and Flood Plain Managers.

Another successful CERT Camp completed at the Broken Arrow Campus. Each year there is a waiting list for this camp for students all around green country. Carrie Suns, Community Relations Coordinator for the Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps dropped in to support the program. If you want to enroll your student for next summer the link is below. Northeastern State University, College of Extended Learning is hosting the CERT Summer Camp for high school students at the Broken Arrow Campus. This program provides training on the topics of CPR, First Aid, tourniquet applications, water and gas main shut off, and other vital skills in order for citizens to be prepared and not be scared during emergencies. The registration link for CERT and many other summer camps at NSU is provided below.

Dr. Rebekah Doyle oversees the program and Volunteer Laura Weaver is the lead instructor. Broken Arrow Fire Department Captain John Cockrell volunteered his time today to instruct on first aid operations.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Rapid DNA Program Supervisor Beth Deen was interviewed by Instructor Brandon Berryhill concerning the deployment of Rapid DNA testing equipment in Oklahoma. This technology allows investigators to conduct presumptive tests on DNA samples to assist with ongoing investigations within 90 minutes. Supervisor Deen expounded on her career path as a science student into the world of forensics. The interview will be available for Criminal Justice students at Northeastern State University.

Supervisor Beth Dean has a B.S. of Chemistry, B.S. of Biology from the University of Oklahoma and a M.S. in Forensic Science/Molecular Biology from the University of Central Oklahoma.
