Tau Pi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc

Tau Pi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc We are the Tenacious Tau Pi chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Serving Oglethorpe University since December 9, 2012! We matter.

The Tenacious Tau Pi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was chartered on Sunday, December 9, 2012. Our 12 tenacious charter members were Rashunda Armstrong, Shelby Smith, Asia Ashley, Crystal Godfey, Naomi Smith, Terrika Cook, Kyana Jenkins, Theresa Tchassama, Andreas Childs, Jessica Pierce, Kaneisha Currie, and Mareva Bone. The chapter was chartered in the Significant South Atlantic Regi

on by 12 driven young women at Oglethorpe University located in Brookhaven, GA. The Tau Pi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was the first Black Greek letter organization on the campus of Oglethorpe University. This was a momentous accomplishment for the Black community at large. Not only did it foster a social climate of diversity and inclusion, but it also motivated students to seek the charter of other Black Greek lettered organizations on Oglethorpe University’s predominately White campus. In doing so, our campus has seen a progressive broadening in initiatives that cater to and support the Black community. With Tau Pi being chartered in the last decade, it comes as no surprise that we are relatively small in comparison to other chapters in the Significant South Atlantic Region. However, our size certainly does not affect the fortitude of our endeavors. Within our short time of existence, we are proud to proclaim the representation of our chapter at the 39th Leadership Fellows Program. Soror Alexandria Bryant represented the chapter well, developed invaluable relationships and conveyed her newfound knowledge to the members of Tau Pi as she served as the chapter’s Basileus. Her leadership has carried the chapter forth to be where we are today. Each year, as we celebrate our tenacious charter members who made this all possible, we show our appreciation for the foundation that they have laid. Thankfully, on our fifth charter day celebration, we were able to invite our charter members back to Oglethorpe University’s campus for the unveiling of the university’s first and only Greek plot. We saw it necessary to have a physical representation of their hard work and dedication on campus. Now, as students walk by they cannot help but notice this historical landmark. On our Greek row, only one of the houses is occupied by a Black Greek lettered organization. So, this historical landmark is both a token of appreciation for our charter members and a reminder to the school community that we are here. continues to cultivate events in correspondences with our international program targets. During the 2018- 2019 school year, we have hosted a number of events including but not limited to: Voter Registration, Pink Goes Red Dance class, Talk on Women’s Health, Mocktails & Murals, AKADemic study session, Talk on Economic Literacy, Walk with Tau Pi, and The Story of (You): Self Love & Goals Workshop.

To celebrate May’s Mental Health Awareness Month, our chapter joined the UAO Chapter to host an impactful Community Event last Saturday. We hit our Uplift our Local Community initiative by coming together to foster wellness, reduce stigma, and provide valuable resources. Participants received wellness tips, supported wellness vendors, did chair yoga and aerobics during the event. It was an honor to connect with the community and prioritize mental well-being together!🩷💚

This week, our chapter continued to support the Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Pack (AKA CHIPP™), Alpha Kappa Alpha’s ambitious effort to combat food insecurity. We packed meals at Rockbridge Elementary yesterday for children to have food over the weekend, strengthening families through our Empower Our Families Initiative.
Proud to stand in service—addressing child hunger through youth development, mental well-being, and nutritional support in our community! 💚💗
