Alcornite on the Move! Congratulations Dr. Nelson!

Co-Lin is growing to meet the needs of our students and our region! 💙🩺We’re excited to announce the establishment of our new Division of Nursing and Allied Health, bringing seven healthcare programs together under one unified division. The new division will strengthen collaboration, support student success and create opportunities to build even stronger partnerships with healthcare providers. Learn more about our allied health programs here www.colin.edu/programs/

We’re also proud to announce Dr. Walterine Nelson as the new Dean of Nursing and Allied Health. A Co-Lin graduate and experienced nurse educator and administrator, Dr. Nelson brings more than 25 years of experience to this important role. She has served as Co-Lin’s Associate Degree Nursing Director for the last two years and successfully led the program through the accreditation process where Co-Lin received full accreditation from the Mississippi Board of Nursing.

The future of healthcare education at Co-Lin is bright!

History was made in Lorman. On July 12, Alcorn State University welcomed 110 scholars from 11 states for the 2026 TMCF SOAR Program, becoming the first four-year institution in Mississippi to host the program and drawing the second-largest scholar cohort in SOAR history.

These rising high school seniors from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina and Texas will spend six days on Alcorn's campus exploring majors, getting college admissions coaching, building their resumes and discovering that an HBCU might just be the place their future begins.

The best part? It was 100% free for the scholars and their families. Read the full story here — https://tinyurl.com/yb7xyyez
