🌍🔥 Advancing Wildfire Emissions Monitoring with Enhanced Satellite Data

The NOAA Global Biomass Burning Emissions Product eXtended (GBBEPx) has been enhanced by incorporating Sentinel-3 observations, improving global fire emissions estimates for applications in air quality, weather forecasting, climate modeling, and environmental monitoring.

This research was led by Dr. Xiaoyang Zhang, Distinguished Professor at South Dakota State University and CISESS Consortium Scientist, together with Dr. Fangjun Li, Yongchang Ye, and Ruixuan Li. Their work demonstrates how integrating Sentinel-3 observations enhances the accuracy and reliability of global biomass burning emissions products, supporting improved Earth system science and informed decision-making.

Congratulations to Dr. Khuong Tran who is the recipient of the 2026 Distinguished Dissertation Award🎉🏆 Dr. Tran earned his PhD in Geospatial Science and Engineering with a specialization in Remote Sensing. He is currently a Research Scientist for the Earth Division of the NASA Ames Research Center.
