After concluding their time in Constantinople, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America led the students participating in the St. Helen’s Pilgrimage to Mt. Athos where they visited several monasteries and brotherhoods including the monasteries of Xenophontos, Philotheou, and Pantokratoros, as well as the brotherhoods of St. Andrew Sarai and Mikra Agia Anna. Likewise, the group visited the Esphigmenou monastery brotherhood at their center in Karyes.

On Tuesday, May 26th, the students were specially invited at Xenophontos Monastery to chant the Divine Liturgy presided by His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America and concelebrated by His Grace Bishop Ioannes of Phocaea and several clergy of the monastery and of the Pilgrimage group. On Wednesday, May 27th Bishop Ioannes, who is visiting Mt. Athos for the first time, presided at the Divine Liturgy concelebrated by the clergy of the brotherhood and the Pilgrimage group.

His Eminence and the Pilgrimage group were received very warmly and with joy wherever they went and the experience was transformative for the students a vast majority of whom were going to Mt. Athos for the first time.

When asked about his sentiments, Archbishop Elpidophoros mentioned, “It is always a joy and a blessing to experience the beauty and grace of Orthodox monasticism in a place such as the Holy Mountain which is a rich expression of the Orthodox monastic witness within the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. It is even more satisfying for me as Archbishop to be here with the seniors of the Holy Cross and to show them the depth of our Orthodox heritage as monasticism here has thrived for more than 1,000 years. The spiritual nourishment they receive now will add to their seminary experience and better prepare them for ministry in our Sacred Archdiocese.”

The St. Helen’s Pilgrimage continued in Constantinople with the rising seniors of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology visiting numerous religious and historical sites such as Agia Sophia, the Cisterns, Halki Monastery and Theological School, and Nicaea (the site of the 1st and 7th Ecumenical Councils).

It was particularly moving for the students to attend the Orthros and Divine Liturgy presided from the throne by His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America at the Patriarchal Church of St. George at the Phanar on Sunday, May 24th.

The students also had the opportunity to visit several parish communities of Constantinople where they were warmly welcomed by hierarchs of various Archdiocesan Districts of the Archdiocese of Constantinople together with their communities. Hearing about the Orthodox witness of the local Constantinopolitans — despite adverse conditions — was an inspiration and the hospitality offered towards the students was unparalleled.

HCHC seminarian, Logan Taylor, newly graduated from the Master of Divinity Program at Holy Cross, was ordained to the Holy Diaconate on Sunday, May 17, at Holy Cross Chapel by His Grace Bishop Anthony of Synada, on behalf of His Eminence Metropolitan Sevastianos of Atlanta, just one day after his graduation. What a joy it was for the HCHC community to gather in celebration!

A few days later, on May 21, in Atlanta, Georgia, Deacon Longinos was ordained to the Holy Priesthood by His Eminence Metropolitan Sevastianos.

We give thanks to God for this blessed moment in the life of our School and pray that Father Longinos’ ministry may be filled with faith and love in service to Christ and His Holy Church.

Axios, Father Longinos! May God grant you and your family many years!

Just one day after Commencement, Holy Cross Master of Divinity rising seniors departed for the 2026 St. Helen’s Pilgrimage, a transformative program that forms an important part of their education.

On Wednesday, May 20, the Apodosis of Pascha, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew received in formal audience His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America who is leading our students on this pilgrimage together with V. Rev. Archimandrite Bartholomew Mercado and V. Rev. Archdeacon Dionysios Papiris.

Following the Divine Liturgy, the group was received at the Phanar by His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew in a formal audience marked by warmth, spiritual reflection, and paternal affection. During the audience, His All-Holiness expressed his paternal love and enduring care for the theological school.

His All-Holiness also acknowledged the devotion and steadfast commitment that Archbishop Elpidophoros has demonstrated toward the Mother Church of Constantinople through his ministry in America. The Patriarch, speaking warmly about the Archbishop’s ministry in the Sacred Archdiocese of America, further noted the Archbishop’s continued support and efforts in strengthening Hellenic College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology.

On behalf of the group, Holy Cross rising senior Mr. Konstantinos Kazantzis delivered an address in the Greek language to His All-Holiness. Additionally, the President of the Student Government Association of Hellenic College Holy Cross, Mr. Andres Duran, presented a gift to His All-Holiness on behalf of the students in attendance.

During the pilgrimage, students will travel to Constantinople, Nicaea, Halki, Mount Athos, and Thessaloniki to visit historically significant Orthodox sites, and deepen their understanding of the life and history of the Church. Prior to departure, students complete a preparatory course focused on the history of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

St. Helen’s Pilgrimage is sponsored through the generosity of Helen A. Carlos. It offers future priests and lay ministers the opportunity to encounter the living traditions, history, language, and spiritual roots of the Orthodox Church firsthand.

We wish our students a blessed and enriching pilgrimage journey!

On Saturday, May 16, 2026, the Hellenic College faculty gathered to congratulate Dr. Stamatia Dova, Professor of Classics and Greek Studies, on her 25 years of service to the College, and to mark the silver jubilee of the Kallinikeion Institute, which she directs. Dean Nicholas Ganson, speaking on behalf of the faculty, thanked Dr. Dova for all her labors and wished her many more years in her role.

This milestone is especially joyful as the Kallinikeion Institute’s Summer 2026 classes begin today, continuing its 25-year mission of introducing students to the riches of Hellenic heritage through the study of modern Greek.
