Last week, five student officers from NHCC’s Kappa Beta Delta Business Club had the opportunity to present a full social media marketing strategy to a real-world client, The Rotary Club of Maple Grove.

Originally prepared to hire a social media consultant, The Rotary Club of Maple Grove instead got a 100+ page digital marketing strategy and content package created entirely by NHCC students Noah Plahn, Juan Deleon, Norma Soriano, Exocee Bulonza, and Muna Wazwaz.

Bright and early, last Tuesday morning, our students came ready to shine, presenting their work to the Rotary board and to NHCC leadership, impressing everyone in the room with their professionalism, creativity, and attention to detail.

Real-world opportunities like this leave a lasting impact on our students that will benefit them for years to come. Thanks to these incredible student leaders for representing NHCC and KBD so well!

We had LOTS to celebrate in the month of May. Including our newest class of Bemidji State University Biology partnership student graduates! The ceremony was extra special this year, as it marked NHCC and BSU's 10th graduating class, (bringing our total to 121 graduates since 2016). To commemorate the milestone, biology alumni were invited back to attend the ceremony, and reception. Congratulations on your achievements, graduates, and we wish you all the best in your future endeavors!

Please join us in congratulating NHCC English faculty, Kelly Lundquist, on winning a Minnesota Book Award for Memoir & Creative Nonfiction earlier this month at The Ordway in St. Paul!

After receiving the award, Kelly shared: “I was thrilled and shocked! I didn’t think I was going to win. At all. But it meant the world to me. And especially since so many people I love were there— family and friends— to support me. We had a whole row.

Reyna Hernandez is a criminal justice student at NHCC, who was chosen to represent the class of 2026 as our commencement speaker for the 7pm ceremony tomorrow!

In Reyna’s own words, "My passion for criminal justice started when I attended the Wonder Woman Camp hosted by the Brooklyn Park Police Department back in 2023. It was a two-to three-day camp, and that experience introduced me to their Police Explorer program, which I participated in for two years. During my second year, I had the opportunity to serve as a lieutenant, which taught me a lot about leadership and public service. At first, I thought I wanted to become a police officer because I’ve always wanted to help people and serve my community. As someone who struggled with language barriers after coming to this country, I understood what it feels like to need help and guidance, and I wanted to be that support for others. Through those experiences, I realized my passion was shifting. While I still care deeply about public safety, I discovered that crime analysis aligns more with my strengths and interests. I want to support officers behind the scenes by using data, research, and problem-solving to help prevent crime and make communities safer."

Before graduation, we made sure to catch up with Reyna to ask her some questions!

The nursing pinning ceremony is a long-standing tradition that dates back to the early days of modern nursing. It's a symbolic welcoming of graduates into the profession. Each school of nursing has their own unique pin that represents their program, and we were honored to celebrate our nursing students as they received theirs last week.

Our graduating students come from a wide range of backgrounds, including career‑changers, first‑generation college students, parents, multilingual learners, and students with prior experience in healthcare and other fields. Across the academic year, we graduated a total of 82 nursing students, with 48 graduates in the fall and 34 graduates this spring.

Nursing students represent multiple ethnicities, national origins, and life experiences, which greatly enrich classroom learning, clinical practice, and patient‑centered care. Together, our nursing graduates exemplify resilience, commitment, and inclusivity, and we couldn't be more proud of them!

Jenny Victory is a medical laboratory technology student at NHCC who was chosen to represent the class of 2026 as our commencement speaker for the 3pm ceremony!

In Jenny’s own words, "Before entering the Medical Laboratory Technology program, I worked as a pharmacy technician in retail. While I valued being a part of the healthcare team, I found the patient-facing aspect of retail pharmacy to be quite challenging. A friend of mine in southern Illinois, who was working in a research laboratory, introduced me to the world of laboratory science. Around the same time, I made the decision to leave a difficult situation and move to Minnesota to be closer to my found family. While exploring my options, I discovered that NHCC offered an MLT program. A community college felt accessible and welcoming, and it gave me a path back into healthcare that felt attainable. Since then, my found family has grown exponentially. I am excited to share that I recently accepted a position at a reference laboratory! It feels super rewarding to know that the path I chose is leading to meaningful work that supports patient care behind the scenes."

Before graduation, we made sure to catch up with Jenny to ask her some questions!
