Hey, the Math club is hosting a two-part event on Oct. 25th and Oct. 30th at 12:30-1:30PM titled “What is Physical Mathematics?”, which discusses the new and very active area of research at the interface of physics and mathematics!

The second part is intended for faculty, but students are also invited.

Food and refreshments will be provided!

Hey,
We were invited to attend the following competition. If you are interested in attending then please email [email protected], so that we can let them know how many students from our school will be attending. The event is free, and we are trying to get some money for transportation.
**************************************************************************
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
We invite any and all undergraduates to participate in our ninth annual Regional
Undergraduate Mathematics competition at Central Connecticut State University
(CCSU). We have personally extended an invitation to 70 different institutions in
Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Every available
undergraduate is encouraged to attend.
The competition will be held on Saturday, 22 April 2017, at Central Connecticut
State University, in New Britain, Connecticut, on the first floor of Maria Sanford Hall
(for those of you who have participated in the past, please note that this is NOT the
same location as before). The test itself will begin promptly at 10am. Before the test,
there will be an explanation of the testing procedures.
We humbly request that no one bring any calculators, crib sheets, clothing bearing
formulas, books, worked out problems or anything else that could be construed as
an unfair advantage into the competition room.
The test will be administered in two parts with half of the questions on the first part
and the remaining half on the second part. Each part will be two hours long. After
the first part there will be a one-hour break with free pizza and soda to help the
mind recuperate. The competition will terminate promptly at 3pm, which will
hopefully allow everyone to avoid rush hour traffic on their way home. A faculty
committee will grade the competition papers as quickly as possible.
While there are no fees or even a requirement for registration, we request a decent
estimate of the number of students coming from each school for the purpose of
providing enough consumables. This event is informal and has been crafted to
promote a general love and understanding of mathematics through competitive
problem solving.
A reminder/second announcement will be sent to you in a few weeks; that message
will include information about prizes.
If you are interested in attending the competition, please e-mail me the number of
students you expect to attend ([email protected])
Feel free to visit our website at:
http://www.ccsu.edu/mathematics/mathCompetition.html
The website includes copies of the first eight competitions’ problems, as well as the
official solutions. We hope to see all of you at Central Connecticut State University
on Saturday, April 22th.
Sincerely,
Zoe Cramer
President
The CCSU Society of Mathematics

Each year, the math department hosts the Northeast Regional Undergraduate Mathematics Competition. The event is held on our campus in New Britain, Connecticut.

"Sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs and the CUNY Institute for Software Design and Development (CISDD) and supported by the Office of the Chancellor, the CUNY Math Challenge seeks to identify and reward CUNY's best math talent. Regardless of your major, if you are a matriculated CUNY undergraduate student and enjoy doing math problems, the CUNY Math Challenge is for you! There are stipend awards in the second and in the final round.

Here's how it works. The contest begins on-line at 9:00 A.M. on Monday, February 13, 2017 and is composed of four rounds with questions of varying difficulty. The first and third rounds will take place entirely online; the first will remain open for two weeks, the third for two weeks. The competition ends on Sunday, April 23, 2017.

The second and the final rounds are by invitation only and will consist of in-person exams. A stipend of $100 will be awarded to the student who does best in a college as long as there are at least three students in that college taking the exam. In the final round, at least 12 winners will receive a stipend worth between $250 and a top prize of $1,000. Up to $15,000 will be awarded to the winners.

So, are you up for the challenge?! "
