Dr. Karla Boeta, M.D.
Completed a medical degree at Ross University School of Medicine, currently completing a Neurology residency at Baylor Scott & White in Temple, Texas, and will soon begin an Epilepsy fellowship at UT Southwestern in Dallas, Texas.
What challenges did you encounter along the way and how did you overcome these challenges and stay resilient?
One of my biggest challenges was learning to step outside of my comfort zone and become an independent learner while still knowing I had the support of BMED faculty. Having a mentor (my research mentor, Dr. Saraswathy Nair) throughout those years made a huge difference. I looked up to her and learned so much from her example, which motivated me to keep growing and challenging myself. Her guidance helped me become more confident and take on new challenges.
What advice would you give to current BMED students?
Believe in yourself and do not be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Find mentors, become an independent learner, and take advantage of all the opportunities BMED has to offer. You never know which experience or person will end up shaping your future.
