Sharon Daley began nursing in traditional hospital roles but spent the second half of her career traveling on a seventy-four-foot boat to provide care and connection to some of Maine’s most remote island communities.

One of three 2026 Bowdoin College honorary degree recipients, Daley will be on campus this Friday to speak about her work with the Beacon Project and the challenges of living and aging on an island.

The event is open to the public free of charge as part of the Commencement Exercises for the Class of 2026. We hope you will join us. If you are not on campus, you can watch this talk at bowdoin.edu/live.

Anthony Reed, a 38-year-old IT specialist at Bowdoin, will receive his diploma at Commencement next week after taking classes here for the last seven years.

Taking one to two classes a semester, he studied, worked full-time, and raised two young children. “My wife is incredible, and the IT department and HR have been on board and very supportive of me. Everyone has been very flexible,” Reed said.

After he walks at Commencement and has his degree in hand, he has one primary professional goal: To keep doing good work at Bowdoin. “I have absolutely loved every minute I have worked at this College,” Reed said. “The College takes care of the community, and there is no other place I want to work.” Read more about him here!

The menu at Lunch with Six Supporters features joyously satisfying fare. Students are served the opportunity to share a meal and their gratitude with those who help make a Bowdoin experience possible, while the alumni, trustees, families, and friends who support financial aid see firsthand the impact of their generosity and connect with the students benefiting from it.

More than 230 students and supporters broke bread together in Barry Mills Hall on May 7, 2026, for the annual event celebrating Bowdoin’s commitment to financial aid and access. Calling it “one of the most meaningful gatherings of the year,” President Safa Zaki reflected on the College’s longstanding commitment to ensuring talented students can attend Bowdoin regardless of financial circumstances.
