Congratulations to Marcus Brewer, recipient of the 2026 TTI G. Sadler Bridges Senior Researcher Award.

The G. Sadler Bridges Senior Researcher Award was established to honor the 35-year career of Sadler Bridges, whose vision and leadership helped shape TTI’s growth and impact. Over the course of his distinguished career, Bridges served as both TTI’s deputy director and acting director, roles in which he championed innovation and collaboration across federal, state and local transportation initiatives. The intent of the Bridges Award is to recognize and reward excellence in research by senior TTI professionals. Bridges exemplified the values of creativity, commitment and collaboration, and this award honors individuals whose research achievements reflect that same spirit and whose work has made a lasting impact on the transportation field.

Utility relocations on private property are among the most complex challenges facing the Texas Department of Transportation, particularly when determining reimbursement eligibility.

To improve consistency, TxDOT and the Texas A&M Transportation Institute reviewed past agreements and compared practices from other states. Their work resulted in recommendations to help standardize reimbursement calculations and improve accuracy in reimbursement decisions.

Congratulations to Lee Gustavus, recipient of the 2026 TTI Glenda Evans Legacy Award.

The Glenda Evans Legacy Award was established in 2020 in memory of Glenda Evans, a dedicated member of the TTI Business Operations team for 22 years. The intent of the award is to recognize individuals who exemplify the qualities Evans was known for: resilience, professionalism and compassion, while contributing meaningfully to the TTI community. Recipients of this award consistently demonstrate a positive attitude, show resilience in the face of unforeseen challenges and promote a sense of community by bringing others together for a common purpose. This award celebrates those who reflect Evans’ enduring legacy through their inspiration, positivity and respect for others.

Full depth reclamation (FDR) using foamed or emulsified asphalt is becoming a more common road repair method in Texas because of its rapid construction advantages.

The Texas A&M Transportation Institute, in collaboration with the Texas Department of Transportation, has studied the durability and strength of FDR mixtures. The research aims to develop guidance on adjusting mix designs and determining when an additive is needed in a road project.

Congratulations to Madhusudhan Venugopal, recipient of the 2026 TTI Dock Burke Legacy Award.

This Dock Burke Legacy Award was established with a gift from Angie and (the late) Sadler Bridges to honor the distinguished 45-year career of Dock Burke, who retired in 2013 as director of the Southwest Region University Transportation Center, senior research scientist and Regents Fellow. The purpose of the award is to recognize innovative and entrepreneurial development of interdisciplinary research that has broadened the scope of TTI.

The Gibb Gilchrist Fellowship was established by Patricia and Henry Gilchrist ’46. The intent of the Gibb Gilchrist Fellowship is to recognize and reward excellence among new TTI researchers and to provide the resources needed to help establish their research program and nurture their professional development. Congratulations to Mirah Howard, a student technician in TTI’s Research and Implementation Division, for receiving the 2026 TTI Linda Kay Cherrington Hershey Transit Mobility Scholarship.

The Linda Kay Cherrington Hershey Transit Mobility Scholarship was endowed by her husband John Paul Hershey. Linda was a TTI researcher nationally recognized for her work in transit planning, management and operations, as well as other mobility options. A Program Manager and Senior Research Scientist at TTI, Linda was known for her technical expertise, management skills, open communications and commitment to excellence. She was an outstanding mentor to other researchers and students. The intent of the scholarship is to recognize and reward undergraduate and graduate students working for TTI on research projects related to all aspects of transit, ridesharing, biking, walking and other mobility options.
