Have you made it to Medina to see our Professor Matt Kenyon’s work “The TELL”?!

The TELL, 2026
Medina sandstone, atmospheric water generator unit, water reservoir, tubing and filters, Rose of Jericho, ch*****ne coupe glasses, bank ledger paper, fordite, and custom lighting system
Buffalo-based artist Matt Kenyon focuses on issues of entrenched power, specifically those of global corporate entities, mass media, and the military-industrial complex. The TELL takes its title from an archaeological term for an artificial mound formed through layers of human settlements, built, abandoned, and built again over centuries. A tower of fragile ch*****ne coupes holds Roses of Jericho, plants that appear dried until revived with just a bit of water. An atmospheric water generator pulls water from the air of the gallery into condensed droplets that spill throughout the tower’s structure. The tower partly sits atop fragments of Medina sandstone, historically extracted from local quarries.
The TELL is commissioned by the Medina Triennial, and installed in the Historic Medina High School.

Fantastic presentation and discussion with artist Althea Murphy-Price, tonight to kickoff our Fall 2026 Visiting Artist Speaker Series! In Center for the Arts | UBuffalo Screening Room 112

From screenprinting the word “lie” on synthetic hair pieces, to lasercutting collage component ribbons specifically the colors of not top ranked “places”, sculptures, prints, craft and technology, and more, it was great to hear about the techniques that Murphy-Price employs to investigate beauty, womanhood, and representation.

Thank you to our Professors Becky Brown for organizing this great line-up, and Noah Breuer for tonight’s introduction of Murphy-Brown.

The Department of Art regularly invites artists, critics, historians and designers to participate in the Visiting Artist Speaker Series, classroom lectures and critiques. The Speaker Series happens every fall semester and is free to the public. The Series is attended by students enrolled in ART200, and seating is first-come-first-serve, once these enrolled students are seated.

“Following the devastating 2024 fire that left all but its exterior walls, St. Anne’s Church exists in a state of becoming, marked by loss, yet filled with possibility. Where Walls Meet Sky is the first public art exhibition to reopen the church, inviting visitors into a space of renewal, reflection, and reconnection.

With its roof open to the sky, light, weather, and the elements become part of the exhibition, dissolving the boundary between inside and outside. Through sculpture, installation, photography, and multidisciplinary works, twelve artists explore renewal, resilience, memory, and transformation.

Join us as we reflect on how places carry memory, how communities endure, and how hope can emerge from loss.

“I recently had the opportunity to design a Times Square motion billboard ad for KSR. The project included concept development, storyboarding, motion design, and creative direction for the piece. Seeing something I designed run on one of the biggest screens in the world was a moment I’ll never forget, and it’s a project that still feels tied back to what I learned in the UB Art Department’s graphic design program.”
