The Buffalo State Wind Ensemble is one of th
e premiere performing ensembles on campus. The Wind Ensemble performs works in the traditional wind band repertoire as well as contemporary works of various styles. The Wind Ensemble can be heard in performance twice each semester and often performs additional concerts and clinics at high schools throughout Western and Central New York. The Philharmonia orchestra is comprised of Buffalo State music majors, non-music majors, faculty, area professional musicians, local music educators, and community enthusiasts who are committed to performing the high level symphonic repertoire. The music department awards more than $40,000 of scholarships annually, based on musical audition. Other academic scholarships, including honors fellowships are also available. McPherson
With 20 years of flute pedagogy experience, Dr. McPherson enjoys helping her students consistently win scholarships, awards, competitions and jobs. As a devoted chamber and orchestral musician, Dr. McPherson currently performs with the Erie Chamber Orchestra, the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra, the Erie Philharmonic, the Silverwind Duo and the Buffalo Chamber Players. Additionally, she has played in orchestras throughout Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Michigan. She has been a soloist with the Michigan State University Symphony Orchestra and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Dr. McPherson has performed for live solo radio performances and for public television broadcasts, and has performed on award-winning and Grammy-nominated recordings. She has been invited several times to perform at the National Flute Association Convention and at the Global Flute Workshop in New York City. Dr. McPherson has been published in the International Alliance for Women in Music Journal and Flutist Quarterly, and has recorded several CDs including American Kaleidoscope with the Silverwind Duo. Dr. McPherson earned her Doctorate of Musical Arts degree and a Master of Music degree from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Music degree from Ithaca College. Spend a Day With Us
