At the end of every semester, the TEATAPS, students, and anatomy faculty all come together to celebrate and reflect on the time they have spent learning from our silent teachers. This year, we were lucky to hear from Dr. Kelly Rizzuto, a physical therapist that graduated from Duke University’s PT school after attending Elon University. She was the TEATAPS Overseer (foreman) from 2010-2011, leaving a lasting impact on the TEATAPS program. She spoke about how her time as a TEATAPS grew her love of the body, and more importantly, her love of teaching. Dr. Rizzuto spoke about how hugely beneficial the program was while at Duke’s PT school, mentioning her proficiency in anatomy compared to her peers, being one of two in her cohort that had ever worked with human donors. In her job as a Physical Therapist, Dr. Rizzuto mentioned how her love of teaching, inspired by TEATAPS, means she looks forward to having students shadow her profession. We are so grateful to have such a wonderful TEATAPS alumni speak about her work, passion, and impact in this program, and to quote Dr. Rizzuto, “this is a place where death nurtures life.”
