It has been a very busy and productive week for our fire cadets. They tackled two of the most important lessons this week and did a phenomenal job at perfecting these skills. The cadets worked with ground ladders the first part of the week and rounded out the end of the week, working on their vertical and horizontal ventilation skills.

Fire Cadets had the opportunity to train with Burlington Fire Battalion 1 C-Platoon crews today as they worked on building their confidence with ground ladders. The importance of ladder skills is paramount to a firefighters job. Ladders are often used for rescuing civilians but also gaining access to higher stories of structures or roofs. This past week has been a busy one for the students as they participated in an air consumption test, Building Construction classes, Forcible Entry training and rounding out the week with Portable Extinguisher training. The group photo shows how a large group can bond in a matter of a few days when they are all like-minded individuals.

The 40th ACC Fire Academy is off to a great start as we move into week 2. The students are learning about the importance of Personal Protective Equipment, better known as PPE. This particular subject will have four days of instruction as well as hands-on practicals to relay the importance of knowing your equipment and being comfortable with its use in high stress situations.

It has been a great few weeks of the Spring Fire Academy. The cadets are moving right along and learning very valuable information that they will use as firefighters throughout their career. Special thanks to and for always stepping up to assist our academies.

The first week of the Spring 2023 Fire Cademy has officially wrapped up. For a fun Friday afternoon task, the students had to work together and develop a few safety policies that can be integrated into the academy.
