Crossroads Leadership Lab

Crossroads Leadership Lab This graduate program is designed for emerging leaders who are committed to deepening their capacity to catalyze change and transcend boundaries.

In the face of accelerated change and increasingly complex challenges facing life on this planet, it is not enough to simply do more of what we’ve been doing. We need to do things differently. This Low-residency Master of Science in Natural Resources with a concentration in Leadership for Sustainability is designed for emerging leaders who are committed to deepening their capacity to catalyze chan

ge and transcend boundaries. Our two-year, 30-credit program offers an innovative blend of intense residential and online learning experiences. The program features four residential modules ranging from 3 to 7 days in Vermont and around the United States. These gatherings provide an opportunity for intensive experiential learning opportunities as well as relationship-building among cohort members and with distinguished professional affiliates.

Dear friends, we are thrilled to share with you an invitation to an upcoming workshop!

Virtual Vocables Workshop: Add Your Voice with Shruthi Veena Vishwanath & Kaylynn Sullivan TwoTrees

Saturday, Sept. 4 at 11am-12:30pm ET

Register Here! https://cutt.ly/7Q1rrOs

You are invited to add your voice to the next iteration of the soundscape for Falling Into Language, a film by Kaylynn Sullivan TwoTrees. During the workshop the visuals of the film become a catalyst to explore vocal sounding as an expression of individual connection to our cosmic origins. Participants will be guided to make their own “vocables” soundtrack to the film and to submit the audio recordings as part of a new iteration of the film’s soundscape for the end of the current exhibition. This workshop will be led by Shruthi Veena Vishnawanth, one of musicians of the original two film soundscapes and Kaylynn Sullivan TwoTrees.

All are welcome to join! Vocal or music experience is not required to participate in this session.

*vocables: sounds that are linked to the larger web of relationships to land, place, and the non-human world – rather than to words and literal meaning.

Co-presented by UVM’s Crossroads Leadership Lab and Burlington City Arts.

Add your voice to the next iteration of Falling Into Language's soundscape, a film and art installation by Kaylynn Sullivan TwoTrees, currently on view at BCA Center as part of the exhibit Falling Into Language: A Travelogue. Workshop participants will view the film with its imagery becoming a catalyst to explore vocal sounding as an expression of individual connection to our cosmic origins. Participants are guided to make their own vocables* in response to the film's soundscape, and will have the opportunity to submit audio recordings to be used for the final iteration of the film’s soundscape.

Song leader Heidi Ann Wilson, one of the musicians the artist collaborated with to create Falling Into Language's original soundscape, and Kaylynn Sullivan TwoTrees will lead the workshop.

Add Your Voice workshop series is co-presented by Burlington City Arts and UVM’s Crossroads Leadership Lab.

The MLS Program stands in solidarity with Black-led movements that continue to rise up against systemic racial violence, anti-blackness, and white supremacy. We join the call for accountability and justice for the murders of George Floyd, Tony McDade, Breonna Taylor and all other victims of racial violence over hundreds of years on this continent, and we stand with Black-led movements taking courageous action toward liberation and systemic change.

At this moment, the MLS program returns to the wisdom, teachings, and practices of our partners and affiliate community on leadership, learning, change, and social movements. We are reminded that transformational change is possible through deep solidarity, relationship, learning and love.

We deepen our resolve and commitment to practices for unlearning and dismantling the mindsets, structures, and systems of white supremacy and anti-blackness in ourselves, our relationships, the MLS program, our institutions, and the larger world of which we are part.

We reaffirm our commitment to follow and center the leadership of Black-led social movements and center the voices, experiences, and wisdom of Black, Indigenous, and PoC leaders and practitioners. The MLS Program recommits to our core values of love, learning, relationship, and well being; while doing all we can to leverage institutional and positional power and resources towards transforming higher education to support and create spaces where all life can thrive, and where all Black Lives Matter.

This is a time for showing up for each other in action, with courage and in alignment with our deepest values. We commit to this work over the long haul with love and in solidarity.
