Interested in getting involved in the Green Building Industry? Opportunities are plentiful in the field of sustainable design and LEED is at its forefront.

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is simply a green-rating point system, or a scorecard. The more energy efficient and sustainable a building is, the more points it will earn. To date, this course and its materials have proven to be instrumental in helping over 5000 students pass their respective exam at a 100% pass rate. This course is offered at a quarter of the price and time as the competition and is geared at allowing students to graduate with letters after their name!

Just as Buildings can be LEED certified, people in the sustainable construction industry can become LEED Professionals. The LEED Green Associate (GA) credential is the only entry level sustainability designation and shows employers and clients that you have certified knowledge in the green building industry. A new LEED rating system (v4) was introduced last month and this training course is one of the few that has been updated to teach the current rating system. This course meets the exam’s eligibility requirements and the USGBC charges a $100 (reduced for students) fee for the actual exam which can be taken at any time at your nearest Prometric center.

Cost: $300 ($200 for full time students)

CEMS SMART members touring the Burton Factory in South Burlington a few weeks ago. We got the inside scoop on some 2018 gear from Doyle in the rapid prototyping lab, and TK covered all of Burton's rich history and showed us the rest of the facilities. Great trip!

Hello y'all!

We hope you are having a great week so far and are finding some time to have fun in between all the studies and exams and ice cream socials. We are hoping to gather everyone together this week to do some quick catching up, but more importantly hear from anybody who is interested in holding an officer position next year in SMART. ELECTIONS! We would like to get new officers elected for next semester so that we can give some “on the job training” for the remainder of this semester and plan some upcoming events!

All who are interested in an officer position should read over the synopsis of duties for each position below and write down a few of the reasons why you think you can do a great job in that role. Anybody who wants to run can share these points with the club at our meeting this Thursday. We are looking for four people to fill the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer and Outreach Coordinator. With only two officers this year, Nick and I realize that a few more hands on deck, with specific roles, can really go a long way for the development and effectiveness of the club. We are proud of what we have built so far with the help of all of SMART’s founding mothers and fathers, and we are excited to pass the torch on to a new group of ambitious students who care about building community and bettering themselves along the way. Not to mention, taking on a leadership role in a club is always a nice resume booster and interview talking point ;) We are excited to continue the development of the SMART identity on campus and in the CEMS community.

This week’s meeting will be on Thursday, March 31st from 7:30-8:10pm, in Votey 254.

I know this is a busy week, but this is also an important meeting, please try to find the time to make it if you can!

Best Regards,
Tim and Nick
