Collaboration and creativity were on full display at Calera Middle School as Mrs. Jana Lee’s FACS classes partnered with Mr. Oravet’s classes on an exciting hands-on design project!
Earlier this school year, Mr. Oravet and his students constructed the wooden houses that became the foundation for this collaborative effort. During the third nine weeks, Mrs. Lee’s FACS students explored the Principles and Elements of Design and then applied those concepts to creatively transform each house into a unique finished piece.
This project provided students with an engaging real-world learning experience that combined craftsmanship, creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork. Students worked incredibly hard throughout the process, and their dedication truly shows in the final products. Most importantly, they had a wonderful time learning and creating together!
Projects like these highlight the value of cross-curricular collaboration and continuous growth, as both classes reflected on ways to make the experience even stronger for future students. Great job to all of the students involved for their hard work, creativity, and enthusiasm!

📚✨ In Ms. Boyd’s classes at Oak Mountain Middle School, students are exploring what it means to be lifelong learners! Through the “Curiosity Quest: The Lifelong Learning Challenge,” students reflected on why learning should never stop and discovered new topics, hobbies, and skills they are excited to explore. 🌟
From coding and art to space and music, students created “Curiosity Maps” filled with their interests and set goals for how they can continue learning both inside and outside the classroom. This activity encouraged creativity, critical thinking, and personal growth while reminding students that curiosity can lead to endless opportunities. 💡📖
At Oak Mountain Middle School, Ms. Boyd is helping students build habits that go beyond the classroom—teaching them to ask questions, seek knowledge, and embrace learning for life. ❤️ FutureReady
