Linda Lara-Jacobo, SDSU Imperial Valley assistant professor in public health, has been named one of Latino Leaders magazine’s 101 Most Influential Latinos of 2026! 👏

Recognized among five honorees in the science category, Lara is being celebrated for her impactful research in environmental health and toxicology, as well as her commitment to strengthening binational collaboration across the Imperial Valley–Mexicali borderlands.

Join us for the opening reception of “PARA/normal Borders,” an exhibition created by the Mexicali Biennial and hosted by SDSU Imperial Valley’s John H. Steppling Art Gallery on Thursday, Oct. 22.

Join us on Thursday, Oct. 15 for a discussion with Maria Cristina Morales and Cynthia Bejarano, co-editors of Frontera Madre(hood): Brown Mothers Challenging Oppression and Transborder Violence at the U.S.-Mexico Border. The event will explore the lived experiences, advocacy and resistance of Mexicana, Chicanx, Latinx and Black mothers across the U.S.-Mexico border.

The event, open to the community, will be held at the Joseph Rodney Auditorium in SDSU Imperial Valley, Calexico.

Join SDSU’s 2026 RE:BORDER Conference on Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Union, at San Diego State University.

This annual binational conference brings together students, researchers, educators, government leaders, industry professionals and community organizations from both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border to collaborate on shared challenges and opportunities.
