CSU Channel Islands Writing & Multiliteracy Center The WMC support students, faculty, and staff with written, oral, visual, and digital forms of communication. Extended hours now available for finals week!

WMC consultants and staff are here to support all members of the CSUCI community with writing and communication at any stage of the composing process. Our peer consultants and Multiliteracy Specialists can assist students with academic projects, helping them to understand and brainstorm, organize their essays, develop and document their ideas, and learn to polish and edit their own papers. We also

support oral presentations, slideshow design, video storyboarding, and research poster pitch and design. Students are also welcome to discuss personal work such as résumés, letters of application, grant applications, and blogs. The center's services are free of charge. The WMC strives to serve all CSUCI students and accommodate their diverse learning needs.

Well, we’ve got some exciting news: WMC tutoring will be available in partnership with the Veterans Center and Black Cultural Center, bringing you our Mobile Tutoring program!

Tutoring for the Veterans Center: Tuesdays, 11am-1pm

Tutoring for the Black Cultural Center: Wednesdays, 10am-12pm

Time is almost up to register for Plot-A-Thon, and not only do you get access to incredible data visualization learning resouces via Canvas, access to the alumni panel, and of course participation in the Plot-A-Thon itself by registering, but its only by registering through Plot-A-Thon that you can attend the plenary speaker event with Rika Nishikawa, Lead Content Designer at Skydance Interactive!

Riki Nishikawa will be speaking on how gathering available data and analyzing it plays a vital role in connecting the developer to the players, becoming a guiding light in game development where developers are always chasing the subjective goal of “finding the fun”!

Rika Nishikawa is Lead Content Designer at Skydance Interactive, a game division of Paramount Skydance that develops original and IP-based virtual reality and immersive video games. She graduated from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), and and her career thus far has involved a wide array of video games from mobile to console and indie to AAA

Hey Dolphins!

Welcome back to the Spring semester! As you get back into the swing of things, don’t forget that the Plot-A-Thon registration deadline is coming up soon (February 6th)! By registering for Plot-A-Thon not only can you participate in the data visualization “hackathon,” but you also get access to incredible resources such as the Plot-A-Thon Canvas page, the alumni panel event, plenary speaker event, and more!

Not only does Plot-A-Thon have a ton of resources available for you to learn and improve upon your data visualization skills, but Plot-A-Thon is also supported by tons of faculty workshop leaders and CSU faculty mentors! From English and Sociology to Biology and Computer Science, the Plot-A-Thon faculty workshop leaders and faculty members are all excited about data visualization!
