PHOTOGRAPHY BACHELOR OF FINE ARTS 2013-2014

DEPARTMENT MISSION
The mission of the Photography Department, at The Lesley University College of Art and Design (LUCAD), is to educate our students within an internationally recognized program that is committed to a balance of traditional photographic practice and cutting edge contemporary media within an intimate and evolving learning environment. Th

e department emphasizes and encourages artistic and professional instruction, conceptual and perceptual awareness, critical thinking within contemporary and historical contexts, the collaborative nature of contemporary art, and the technical and aesthetic knowledge necessary for a life and career in the photographic arts. At LA+D, 24 diverse photo faculty members who represent a variety of viewpoints, techniques, backgrounds, disciplines, and approaches within the medium will be your mentors. Classes are intimate and these artist/teachers will help you train your eye as well as your mind. LUCAD's vibrant community of beginning and advanced photography students (including, of course, you), work and thrive in our state-of-the-art facilities with equipment that provides the tools needed to realize any vision, concept, or inspiration. INTERNSHIPS
To help prepare you for the real world, which to us means professional skills and industry contacts, we require and assist students in obtaining a wide range of internships. Past internships have included: Magnum Picture Agency; National Geographic; Annie Leibovitz Studio; Oxfam America; Ken Burns Films; The Boston Globe; Institute of Contemporary Art; Photographic Resource Center; Boston Magazine

RETURN ON INVESTMENT
Over 70% of recent LA+D graduates were employed in a new position in fields including the arts, business, the non-profit sector, education and entrepreneurship within 3–to¬–12 months after graduation. Those majoring in Photography found employment at various studios and firms, including Historic New England and Albright Art Gallery, working as photographers, videographers, digital imaging technicians, gallery directors, and teachers. THE AIB/LESLEY CONNECTION
AIB is an art school through and through (come visit and you'll immediately see what we mean). We also offer the extraordinary benefit of being one of four schools within Lesley University – a multi-site liberal arts university based in Cambridge just across the Charles River from Boston. At Lesley University College of Art and Design (LA+D), you get all the best attributes of a small, private art school. At the same time, you have access to all the financial aid, other areas of study, and resources of a larger university. So while you have outstanding studio space and art school facilities, you also have the opportunity to earn scholarships, grants, and self-help aid on campus. You'll have access to excellent libraries, active sports teams, career resources.

“The best thing is having so many resources – from studio space to materials to supportive teachers – to help you reach your goals.” -Tara Sellios, Class of 2010
