1 2011年3月11日の震災とその後の出来事に関するデジタル情報を整理、保存し、できる限り多くの方にとって活用可能な状態にすること。
2 皆様お一人おひとりが、そして研究者や政策に携わる方が、情報を共有し、協力し合い、対話することができる公共空間を提供すること。
3 震災から大きな被害を受けた方や、今後を強く憂慮している方が、記憶や思いを共有できる場となること。
2012 年の後半から2013年にかけて、このベータ版は継続的に改良されてまいります。特に地理空間上での操作やコレクション作成機能の充実を優先的な課題とし、ユーザは自らのコレクションに収めたアーカイブ資料を活用して幅広いプレゼンテーションを行うことが可能になるでしょう。皆様のご提案・ご感想を、ぜひお聞かせ下さい。
2011年東日本大震災デジタルアーカイブ・試作モデル・ベータ版は、
国際的な協力関係の下で進められている取り組みの結果生まれたものです。そこに収蔵されているコンテンツは拡大を続けており、2011年3月とその後の未曾有の出来事によって様々に影響を受けた個人や団体からの投稿で構成されています。このアーカイブのインターフェースは、ハーバード大学エドウィン・O・ライシャワー日本研究所を中心としながら、ハーバード大学メタ・ラボ （metaLAB(at)Harvard）や地理学分析センター（Harvard's Center for Geographic Analysis）、そして非営利のクリエイティブ・テクノロジスト集団であるジーガ（Zeega.org）と密接に連携しながら開発されています。ベータ版は進化し続ける参加型のアーカイブにその基礎を置いています。このインターフェースはジーガ（Zeega）というオープンソース・プラットフォームの上に構築されております。ジーガは危機的状況の際のアーカイブ作業において先導的な役割を果たしており、これを利用することで、どなたでも参加型のプロジェクトを作り、そこで写真・動画・文書・音声・データフィード・地図などの素材をウェブ上のAPIを通じて編集することが可能です。

つながりと発見
このアーカイブが目指すのは、収蔵された情報同士の、そしてユーザ同士の新たな発見を促進することです。ユーザがデジタルアーカイブ内の収蔵情報やコレクションの間を行き来するとき、他のアーキビストたちの拡大し続けるネットワークに出会うことでしょう。それは、位置情報や説明がタグ付けされた何千枚の写真をアーカイブに提供した大きな団体である場合もあれば、自分の家族の経験を綴ったユーザや、そして救援活動に携わる公共・民間団体の関係を研究する歴史家であるかもしれません。

Mission
1 to index, preserve and make widely accessible the digital records of the events of March 2011 and their aftermath
2 to provide a public space of information sharing, collaboration and conversation for citizens, researchers and policy makers
3 to serve as a site of shared memory for those most affected by these events and most concerned about their consequences
Over the remainder of 2012 and into 2013 we will be introducing improvements in this beta version, with particular attention to the mapping feature and collection building, to enable users to create a range of presentations based on materials in their collections. This beta version of the Digital Archive of Japan's 2011 Disasters is the result of an ongoing global collaborative effort. Its ever-expanding content represents the contributions of an array of individuals and organizations variously affected by the unprecedented events of March 2011 and their aftermath. Reischauer Institute at Harvard University in collaboration with metaLAB (at) Harvard, Harvard's Center for Geographic Analysis and Zeega.org, a non-profit creative technology company. This current version lays the groundwork for an ever-evolving and ultimately participatory archive. The interface is built using Zeega, an open-source platform that supports initaitives in crisis archiving, enabling anyone to create participatory projects that combine original content with photos, videos, text, audio, data feeds and maps via APIs from across the web. Connect & Explore
The archive aims to foster new connections, both between items and among users. As they move from item to item and collection to collection users encounter an ever-expanding network of fellow archivists, from the major organization that submits thousands of location- and direction-tagged photographs to the fellow citizen who submits her family's testimonial to the historian who seeks to understand the interaction of public and private actors in the relief effort.
