The Partition of British India in 1947 is an epoc

hal event in the history of the Indian sub-continent. It resulted in the largest forced mass migration in history, with just under 3 million people missing and presumed dead, and more than 15 million becoming refugees. The Partition Stories project seeks to preserve and enrich the historical knowledge of Partition in crowd proportions, discover the different yet merging perspectives of the mass migration, and analyze past and prevailing rhetoric surrounding the Partition. This project aims to build an extensive database of oral histories and gather discrete information on the experiences of both migrants and non-migrants during Partition through unique techniques and an innovative model of crowd-sourcing memories. This project is part of a larger interdisciplinary research project spearheaded by Lakshmi Mittal South Asia Institute at Harvard University titled "Looking Back, Informing the Future: The 1947 Partition of British India".
