With a fundamental belief in the dignity and redemptive nature of human beings, we protest the conditions of the carceral state and advocate for a world without prisons Harvard Prison Education Project works through reciprocal relationship building to produce knowledge, programming, and communities, enabled to advocate against the injustice of mass incarceration. We recognize the role of white sup
remacy, economic inequity, cis-heteropatriarchy, capitalism, and policing as factors that contribute to excessive incarceration. We recognize the role of universities like Harvard in contributing to these forms of oppression. As Divinity School students, we uplift the role of pastoral care, human connection, faith communities, and spiritualities as tools to help us better recognize the dignity and redemptive nature of all human beings. HPEP serves as a liaison between Harvard University, the greater Boston community, and incarcerated peoples in New England. We strive to: provide continuity of care and solidarity with those incarcerated; improve educational opportunities for those incarcerated and educate our communities about the abhorrent social conditions created by American punishment system; challenge authority structures to resist, reform, and abolish the prison-industrial complex; and advocate for community-based restorative justice practices
