Black Lives Matter. We are not immune. We are listening and learning.
The Terrascope staff stands in solidarity with the countless victims of the racism, bigotry and injustice that mar our society and institutions, including those members of our community who daily face structures and norms that challenge or deny their full participation in academia. We recognize that structural inequities, both within and providing the context for our own program, are part of the problem, and we pledge ourselves to work for improvement in Terrascope itself and in the institutions and organizations of which we are a part.
As a first step, we are working to understand how we can better shape Terrascope to provide opportunity for students, faculty and staff of color to rise as leaders in science, technology and society as a whole. This summer we are identifying measures that we can implement going forward; we plan to assess their effectiveness and work to improve them. We welcome your suggestions, ideas and conversation in this effort.
In the meantime, let us all work, in both our personal and our professional lives, for the eradication of the destructive influences that victimize black and brown members of our society.
