Our new honorary Librarian-in-Residence 📚

At yesterday's Convocation, our speaker Mychal Threets shared the importance of legacies — and library cards. He spoke about carrying more than a dozen library cards, some his own and some entrusted to him by others, each one holding a different story. He reminded graduates that we are the keepers of our own stories.

"I want you guys to remember your legacy. It’s not just starting today, it started the day you were born. And this is just the next step, the next journey. And I hope you’re as proud of yourselves as I am proud of you," said Threets.

In recognition of his work as an advocate for literacy, a champion of “library joy,” and a vital voice in the modern evolution of library science, Dean Nonie Lesaux named Threets our honorary Librarian-in-Residence at the Monroe C. Gutman Library.

Thank you, Mychal, for being part of our community and for sharing your joy with us.

At this year’s 10th anniversary of Double Take — HGSE’s community-wide storytelling event — students, faculty, and staff took the stage to share impactful moments from their lives.

We heard about belonging and loss, identity and navigating family illness — and even the small joys of having a crush and finding community along the way.

“Storytelling is an art that spans cultures and generations… we are teaching [children] that life has joys and sorrows, unexpected twists and turns, and that our fellow humans matter,” Dean Nonie Lesaux shared at the opening of the event.

Thank you to all who participated and to everyone who attended.
