Missouri Department of Public Safety Director Mark James and Deputy Director Troy Murdock appreciated the opportunity to visit with sheriffs from across Missouri at the Missouri Sheriffs' Association's spring conference this week. We’re all committed to protecting Missourians and building a safer state, and joint efforts between sheriffs and DPS on initiatives like Operation Relentless Pursuit are a vehicle to strengthen our partnership, expand collaboration and share lessons learned. Director James and Deputy Director Murdock were also able to provide updates on other DPS programs:
▶️ Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase, as president of the Missouri Sheriffs' Association, signed a contract with DPS in which we will provide MSA with over $418,000 in funding for tactical training to be presented by the academy. This type of support for law enforcement agencies has never been more critical!
▶️ 80 communities have received Missouri Blue Shield recognition for 2026, with additional communities being recognized next Friday, and each Friday going forward. Communities may apply here: https://moexperience.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9BSJCJu6ZhQQzCm
▶️ Additional free Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) active shooter response training is available through our partnership with the Missouri State University Public Safety Training Center. Check for opportunities here: https://efactory.missouristate.edu/alerrt/
▶️ New free Missouri Critical Incident Stress Management training sessions have recently been added by our partners at Warrior’s Rest. Check the schedule here: https://warriorsrestfoundation.org/missouri-training/
▶️ Our DPS Law Enforcement Support Office (LESO) continues to connect Missouri law enforcement agencies with excess U.S. Department of War property to support response to natural disasters and other critical incidents. Property may include generators, four-wheel drive vehicles, boats and weapons.
▶️ The Missouri Statewide Interoperability Network, which now has over 63,500 radios on the system.
▶️ The SafeNation App as a platform to anonymously report tips from the public about potential terrorist threats as intelligence sources are seeing an uptick in potential terrorist activity since the beginning of the war with Iran.
▶️ If you see an immediate threat, call 911.
▶️ If you see any suspicious activity, use the Missouri SafeNation app to report it – you can remain anonymous. You can also upload pictures and video. The SafeNation app is available in the App Store and Google Play. Speaking up protects us all!
▶️ In the app, select Cyber Crime or Suspicious Activity.
