We're pleased to invite the community to our second First Responders Expo happening tomorrow, Sept. 11, from 2-5 p.m. Local food trucks, exciting demos (including a LifeNet helicopter landing at 2 p.m. 🚁) and hands-on activities for the whole family!

SUNY Canton will welcome more than 30 area federal, state, local and non-profit emergency response agencies to campus for the second annual first responder expo in September.

The Student Accessibility Services Office recently held a grand reopening of the Sensory Space at its new location in Miller Campus Center Room 235. The event had great snacks and lots of crafts!

Nicole Morrow of Dryden has worked on a farm since she was 12 and developed a passion for working with animals that led her to pursue her degree in Veterinary Technology.

“Animals have always held a special place in my heart, and I have always wanted to be their voice and advocate for their well-being,” she said. “Choosing this major allows me to turn that passion into a career where I can make a difference in the lives of animals and the people who care for them.”

Nicole is a two-sport student-athlete. She plays defense for the SUNY Canton women’s soccer team and runs on the SUNY Canton cross country team.

“Being a part of two teams is a really fun experience,” she said. “My favorite part is traveling to away games and late-night bus ride karaoke with my teammates.”

The biggest thing Nicole has learned since coming here is “as a student-athlete I have learned that I can be capable of more than I realized,” Nicole said.

Her favorite class is Animal Anatomy and Physiology, and her favorite faculty member is Assistant Professor Dr. Wendy Kuceyeski.

After graduation in May 2029, she plans to earn her doctorate in Veterinary Medicine.

This week we said goodbye to former College President Earl MacArthur. Some people don't know this, but Dr. MacArthur's grandson, Shane MacArthur, works here at the college. When the family told us of his passing, Shane said, "May he be remembered for the good he did, and the people he helped along the way."

SUNY Canton President Emeritus Dr. Earl W. MacArthur passed away on Wednesday, according to his family members. The well-respected former college leader was 98 years old.

We welcomed students back with a foam dance party on Friday night and a custom pop-up event on Saturday with made-to-order signs, tote bags and airbrush tattoos 🦘💙

Gillian Fable of Brooklyn chose SUNY Canton for its small campus environment and strong sense of community. She is a senior Management major with a minor in Entrepreneurship.

Her SUNY Canton journey began when she was looking for a fresh start away from home and a place to grow personally and professionally. “I wanted to attend a school with a small, accessible campus where I could meet new people and build close connections,” she said. “Everyone on campus is there to help students and wants everyone to succeed.”

Gillian’s favorite class was Statistics with Senior Lecturer Kevin McAdoo. “He made learning understandable and enjoyable,” she said.

She is currently an intern for Dean Dr. Kenneth Rhee, where she manages social media and creates content for the School of Business and Liberal Arts. “It has been an outstanding opportunity and helped me understand the career path I want to pursue,” she said.

She is also a Student Ambassador for the Office of Admissions and the Student Government Association Budget Director.

“The biggest thing I have learned since coming to SUNY Canton is that you have to step out of your comfort zone to grow and go far.”

After graduation in May 2027, she plans to pursue an MBA online while working closer to home.
