🎓 What if you could graduate high school with a college degree already in hand?

That’s exactly what some students did through our Dual Credit program. This spring, 12 students earned both their high school diploma and associate degree — while dozens more are earning college credits, career skills, and brighter futures.

✨ Determination. Perseverance. A brighter future. ✨

Tristen Henderson enrolled at SRC for the first time in Fall, 2023. At the time, she was pregnant and without reliable transportation. Due to multiple barriers, she was unable to attend classes in person and enrolled in our online program. She was able to pass the Reading and Social Studies sections of the GED exam just in time for the delivery of her child in Spring, 2024.

She took some time off to adjust to her new role as a mother and enrolled again in Fall, 2024. This time, she was able to benefit from our program’s new laptop lending program, which assisted her in accessing online learning resources and assignments. In Fall, 2025, Tristen began attending classes in person to help her get through the Math portion of the GED exam.

Through her dedication and perseverance she was able to complete the Math and Science portions of the GED exam within three months, ultimately earning her Illinois High School Diploma in November, 2025. Tristen was recognized at our GED Completion Ceremony on May 13 with her family by her side. She intends to continue her education to work in Early Childhood Education.

Thanks to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation Grant, students like Tristen can focus on their studies without added financial burden.

Help us congratulate Tristen, and all our GED completion students, on this accomplishment! 👏

🎓💙 A graduation surprise from last night no one will forget.

Last night’s Commencement ceremony included a moment that had the whole room cheering. After months of deployment, Army Reservist Lt. Triston Eddlemon surprised his wife, Brynn, as she crossed the stage to receive her nursing degree. ❤️🇺🇸

A Spoon River College graduation ceremony turned into an emotional reunion when an Army reservist surprised his wife as she received her nursing degree.
