St. Lawrence University Sustainability House At the Sustainability House students explore sustainable living. We think globally and act locally! Lawrence University campus on Highway 68 in Canton.

The Sustainability House is located approximately 4 miles from the St. The Sustainability House is utilized by SLU Students throughout the year with the Sustainability Program. The house is located on 33.5 acres of land, leased to the University through Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE), complete with a garden, chickens, pigs & a large quonset hut. Converting the buildings and grounds into energ

y efficient, non-fossil fuel-reliant structures and gardens capable of feeding the residents, will be on-going projects planned and carried out by and with SLU students and community members as part of the experience of the Sustainability Program.

Dirt Fest is this Sunday from 11:00-12:30! We’re so excited to partner with EAO and the Greenhouse to transplant some strawberries 🍓 (that you can take home!), make super cool seed bombs 🌱, and eat some fun dirt-themed food🍫! A couple of weeks we took a field trip to Bittersweet-Milkweed Collaborative Farm, where we learned all about how their farm runs. One thing we talked a bit about was their composting system which they use to help enrich their soil. By adding compost to your soil, you’re helping the soil retain moisture and nutrients. In addition, compost helps attract beneficial organisms that reduces the needs for pesticides and fertilizers. In addition, compost can also provide food and nutrients for animals.

During this past very hot week the interns traveled to Sam’s own blueberry patch to harvest berries. The berries will be preserved for incoming students, while some will be enjoyed in the next few days- such as in the form of a delicious blueberry buckle!
