Perfection

We work in a profession where perfection is often the expectation.

When you look at high-level athletes, or even military units, more time is spent on training and recovery cycles than on missions or “game” cycles.

Unfortunately, staffing in the law enforcement realm often dictates that training takes a backseat. This has to change.

We need to set and enforce baseline standards that aren’t based on the Lowest Common Denominator (LCD), but on realistic job expectations. We must then provide the time necessary to train and upkeep those standards.

Part of being a professional means you may have to dedicate some of your own time and funds to exceeding these standards. Frankly, a good teammate should take personal offense to being the LCD or finishing last in anything they do.

Be Above The Standard

Strong leadership matters

Last night’s events on the Strip are a powerful reminder of why leadership matters in modern policing.

When a large, unruly crowd disrupted traffic near Paris and an officer was assaulted with a thrown object, the men and women of Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded decisively, professionally, and in force. They restored order, protected the public, and protected each other; exactly what the community expects when things begin to spiral out of control.

This is what it looks like when leadership backs its officers and allows cops to be cops.

Strong command decisions, coordinated resources, air support, and clear authority sent a message: chaos will not be tolerated, and violence against police will not be excused. At least 11 arrests later, the Strip was safer because officers were empowered to act—not hesitating, not second-guessing, not abandoned.

Policing is not about politics or optics in moments like these. It’s about public safety, officer safety, and maintaining order when crowds turn dangerous. LVMPD showed exactly how it’s done.

To the officers on scene: thank you for standing the line.
To the leadership: thank you for standing behind your officers.

When departments trust their people and lead with clarity and courage, communities are safer; and last night proved it. 💙👮‍♂️👮‍♀️
