PAID REPORTING INTERNSHIPS!

Eight nonprofit newsrooms are looking for interns to work at their news outlets this fall. Interns will work at least 30 hours a week for at least 10 weeks.

There is a June 2 Q&A scheduled for potential applicants to interact with the hiring managers. The application deadline is June 12.

We are excited to share updates on Dr. Pam Parry’s memorial project. The Japanese maple has been planted and the swing has been installed as we continue creating a meaningful space in her memory.

Special thanks to Tom, Gary, and everyone involved for their time, care, and support throughout this project. We are grateful for the community coming together to honor Dr. Parry’s legacy.

Her work in aligning direct and indirect measures with program outcomes, guiding her department through the full assessment cycle, and supporting faculty in using data to improve student learning has made a lasting impact. 🏆 SEMO Mass Media students are making headlines!

Students in the Department of Mass Media earned top honors at the 2026 Missouri Broadcast Educators Association (MBEA) and Missouri College Media Association (MCMA) competitions, showcasing excellence in journalism, audio storytelling, photography, design, film, and multimedia reporting.

🎙️ Senior mass communication: advertising major and Arrow audio editor Ella Tinsley earned four MBEA awards, including two First Place honors for her audio journalism work.

📸 McKenzie Nelson was named Photojournalist of the Year at MCMA.

📰 The Arrow earned multiple First Place awards across writing, investigative reporting, photography, design, multimedia, and Best Website, along with recognition as Best Overall Newspaper and Division II Sweepstakes honors.

🎬 Student filmmaker Levi Donley also earned recognition with Third Place in Video Intermediate Film for “Monitor.”

Even more exciting, The Arrow has also been named a finalist for the prestigious College Media Association Pinnacle Award, placing SEMO among nationally recognized collegiate media programs.

We are incredibly proud of our students for continuing to raise the standard and represent SEMO with excellence.
