Congratulations to Dr. Robert Hahn and Dr. Christopher Chiasson on receiving Teaching Excellence Awards!

Professor Hahn was honored for his incredible career both in and out of the classroom. For nearly 40 years, he led SIU’s Ancient Legacies study abroad programs to Egypt and Greece, inspiring countless students before retiring in 2024.

Professor Chiasson received the Teaching Excellence Award for Non-Tenure Track Faculty. In addition to his outstanding teaching, he launched a new Spring Break study abroad program to Germany in 2024, expanding global opportunities for students.

Students and faculty have just wrapped up their time in Reggio Emilia, Italy. Through lectures, atelier experiences, cultural encounters, and visits to the cities infant-toddler centers and preschools students were able to learn about Reggio Emilia’s unique and innovative approach to education.

Spring break adventures, but make it educational! ✈️📚

A group of SIU students spent their break studying abroad in Germany as part of the Global Seminar: The History and Culture of the Rhineland program. This immersive eight-day experience allowed students to explore historical and cultural landmarks while earning 3 credit hours in LCIS 401-800 (English) or 3-6 credit hours in GER 493-800 (German).

From walking along the Rhine in Mainz to discovering the elegance of Castle Benrath in Düsseldorf and exploring the stunning architecture of Aachen, this trip was one for the books! 🇩🇪✨

The U.S. Department of State’s Gilman-McCain Scholarship provides awards of $5,000 for undergraduate child and spousal dependents of active or activated United States military personnel during the time of application (including Air Force, Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, Army, Army National Guard, Army Reserve, Coast Guard, Coast Guard Reserve, Marine Corps, Marine Corps Reserve, Navy, Navy Reserve, Space Force, NOAA Commissioned Corps, and USPHS Commissioned Corps) to study or intern abroad on credit-bearing programs.
