Sigma Kappa was founded at Colby College in Waterville, Maine; it was the first college in New England to admit women on an equal basis with male students.

ise Helen Coburn were admitted to Colby and the five young women found themselves frequently together. During the school year of 1873-74, the five young women decided to form a literary and social society. They were told by the college administration that they needed to present a constitution and bylaws with a petition requesting permission to form Sigma Kappa Sorority. They began work during that year with an eager glow of enthusiasm. Their purpose at the outset was that the sorority should become what it is now, a national organization of college women. On November 9, 1874, the five young women received a letter from the faculty approving their petition. Thus, this date has since been considered our Founders' Day. Today, Sigma Kappa Sorority has over 152,000 collegiate and alumnae members, making a difference on campuses and in our communities worldwide

If you didn’t know, our former president (2024) Yoli was crowned as USA Miss Cosmos earlier this year! Not only did she represent herself with grace and honor for this, but she continued to do so ALL THE WAY TO MISS COSMOS INTERNATIONAL!!🤍⚡️

Her strength and courage led her to accomplish something no other Sigma Kappa has achieved. She is truly an inspiration to all and uplifts those around her consistently. I’m proud to say congratulations to the new Miss Cosmos World!!🤍👑

OUR GIRL IS SO AMAZING AND WE CAN’T WAIT TO SEE WHAT SHE DOES NEXT!! 🤗🤍⚡️

Today we celebrate 151 YEARS of Sigma Kappa🥹. Since 1874 and through the resilient women who founded our chapter, history, tradition, sisterhood and love has been spread throughout. Each year is another filled with joy and light that connects one another to our family.

We are so grateful for our origin and so excited for the rest to come. Growing with sisters that strive for excellence brings us to our fullest potential everyday and remind us how grateful we are to call Sigma Kappa our home! 💜⚡️

This weekend was THE BEST EVER!! From meeting alumni, the festival on the strip, football and more- we truly had a blast! Over the last week, sigma pi and us worked tirelessly on our homecoming float!! (It seems to have payed off well😉) We already can’t wait for next year!

A Walk For Change💜💭✨🪽

This Saturday Sigma Kappa is walking for the End of Alzheimer’s! On this occasion, we hope that those who have love ones affected, who may have lost someone to this disorder and even those who have no connection- but fight for change may join us to honor and fight in their memory.🔮☁️

This being said, we welcome everyone to join us at John A. Logan College this Saturday. Festivities start at 8:30am and the walk begins at 10! Learn others stories, share yours. Link in bio to Register. 💜💭✨

We’re Still in Awe💝🥹

Looking back on recruitment all we can say it was INCREDIBLE!! Each round was beautiful and everyone was so lovely. In honor of it being over, it’s only right to show those who worked SO hard each night!👯‍♀️✨

was our Vice President of Recruitment and she put in countless hours arranging events, decorating, planning, and most importantly worked around the clock to make sure recruitment went smoothly!! Her role was truly remarkable and she was the best we could have asked for!! Your hard work is endless and so is our love for you!!💝

Another person who was impactful this recruitment season was !! Her creativity and dedication is how Bid Day turned out to our perfect cup of tea! Without her, this day couldn’t have been possible!! We thank you for your time and love for our new members!!💝
