SIUC Steel Bridge Team

Hello all,

As you know, we design and fabricate a steel bridge every year to compete with at our competition. In doing so, we require a lot of funding to make that happen. Below, I’ve attached this year’s sponsor letter. If you’ve donated or been a member of steel bridge in the past, you know how important the funds we get from these letters are to help us succeed. We don’t expect any money or materials from anyone, but we greatly appreciate all that is donated. We aspire to continue the bonds we’ve formed and create new ones!

Also, our friends in ASCE, who support us greatly every year to attend our competition will be hosting our 2026 Symposium! If you feel like donating to them as well, they are very grateful for opportunities to connect with new people and companies!

With Carbondale being in the path of totality for the solar eclipse tomorrow, we’ve had several alumni come back and watch us do some practice builds! As we finish the two weeks leading up to symposium, we have been painting and making any finishing touches or fixes needed before we go. We’ll see you soon @ Missouri S&T!!

Happy Spring Break to our team! We’ve been working very hard to get the members ready and we have our space for practice building ready to go! Competition is getting closer!!!

Happy Engineering Week! On Thursday of this week, high schoolers around Southern Illinois joined us in learning more about Steel Bridge!! Since the semester started we’ve been working hard on cutting and welding our members so they’re ready for Symposium in April. At this rate we should be ready to go before spring break and our team is getting excited!!!! Just under 2 months til competition

Wishing our members good luck on finals this week!!! As we wrap up the semester, we had a few members do more practice welding as well draw out the mold we will be making for our members. We also got all of our steel in as of last week, so we will be starting build as soon as we come back from winter break!!

Only a few more meetings as we head into the end of the semester, but some of our members are still working hard learning how to weld and cut metal! Last meeting, a handful of our team spent time creating their own designs out of miscellaneous scrap metal that we’ve kept for practice welding. Gearing up for a busy second semester!

We began the school year off yesterday afternoon with a barbecue cohosted with Nucor! It was great to meet all the new people and excited for the upcoming school year! Thank you to Nucor for sending some representatives to discuss what all the company does and providing some swag! Also a huge thank you to our ASCE and Concrete Canoe teams for all the support we received in order to make this a reality!! Here’s to a great school year

Photos from regional competition at ASCE Student Symposium. Didnt do as well as we wanted but still a successful year! Congratulations to the teams moving on to San Diego!

Our ASCE chapter won the traveling Spirit Award this year. This award goes to teams who support themselves and other universities and participate in events. Congrats to SIU ASCE!
