Blackburn students! This fall there will be a few open positions in the vivarium! If you would like to apply, go to the Job Fair! It is today and tomorrow, April 20th and April 21st from 3pm- 5:30 pm in DCC Commons! This is your chance to visit with the managers and learn about the positions in the work program. Job descriptions and returner student worker applications will be provided!

You do not have to be a biology major to work here. Experience with reptiles is preferred. You ARE REQUIRED to take care of at least one snake if you work in the vivarium. We take care of all the animals in here just like you would a cat or dog. We hold them, bathe them, feed them, and love them. When we aren't in the middle of a pandemic, we get to work with elementary school kids. They visit us, and we teach them about our animals and the environment. In the spring, we host Science Day. Local high school send their juniors and seniors, and they take tests in biology, chemistry, and physics. Top scoring schools get a cash prize, and top scoring students get a prize. All of the science professors have demonstrations, and the vivarium is open for students to come in. Everybody gets free pizza and free t-shirts. It's a really fun day!

We are needing tanks for our animals. We have plenty of 20 gallon tanks and 55 gallon tanks. We are needing sizes in between!

If you have tanks laying around that you would like to donate, let us know! You can send us a message, and we can set up a time and date.

- NO 20 gallon tanks
- Nothing bigger than 55 gallon
- Lids are not required, but would definitely be appreciated

Today is Chordate Day (or Vert Day) for Dr. Zalisko's Zoology students. Normally we take our animals to the lab while Dr. Zalisko lectures, and we walk around with the animals. Due the Covid, we switched it up, and the students are coming in here. It also feeding day so they get to watch us feed our snakes.

Here is the newest member of the vivarium. Her name is Bugsy, and she is a Love Bird. She belonged to a Blackburn student. He's been pretty busy with school and decided to donate her to us. We are so excited to have her. Thank you Caleb!!

Today is our first day of classes this semester! We are still closed to the public, but Blackburn students that ARE ON CAMPUS are able to come visit. We won't be doing weekly LIVE videos this semester. On Tuesdays our supervisor is available for virtual field trips. We can set up a time and a date and talk about the animals with kids. So send us a message if you're interested!

One of the new babies in the vivarium. This is one of the only times we can handle the birds. Once they get older, they want nothing to do with people.
