Blackburn College Blackburn College , founded in 1837 by Rev. Gideon Blackburn, is a private, residential liberal arts college located in Carlinville, Illinois.

Blackburn is the only work college with a student-managed work program. One of only 10 Work Colleges in the U.S., Blackburn is the only one with a student-managed work program. Each student works a minimum of 10 hours per week for the college, receiving a tuition credit that makes college more affordable. Congratulations to Senior Rylee Lovelace of Palmyra, IL, on being named Student Marshal for the 2026–27 academic year — the highest honor awarded to a graduating senior at Blackburn College!

A marketing major with a business management minor, Rylee serves as the student manager of the Student Life Department in the Work Program and is president of Student Senate. “To know that people around me see me as someone who fits this role and recognize the work I’ve put in over the years is incredible. Blackburn has given me so much throughout my time here, and I hope that when I leave, I can say that I have made an impact on the College just as meaningful as the impact it has made on me.”
