Dickinson values sustainability and encourages students to consider the following options during Dickinson's Green Move Out to maximize reuse, build community, and eliminate waste destined for landfills. The Center for Sustainability Education, Residence Life and Housing and partners from across the campus and community have come together to provide endless options for the reuse of your unwanted items.

Donate to U-Turn: Donate non-perishable foods, housewares and clothing in boxes located in your residential space’s common areas from May 1-15, 2026. These items will be collected, stored and sold at the U-Turn Yard Sale on June 13, 2026. This project is coordinated by the United Way of Carlisle and Cumberland County and has provided over $25,000 in revenue annually for area non-profits for over 20 years! *Non-perishable food items are donated to Project SHARE, not resold.

Ask RA’s, HAM’s, Eco-Reps or residence life staff about the best options for your donations. Each building has different options.

**Do Not Dump Items At Free xChange. Free xChange is run by student volunteers. There is no one available to manage the space- so please donate to U-Turn as directed above.

Faculty are invited to join us for the Valley & Ridge faculty study group where we will learn from each other and share ideas for incorporating sustainability into teaching and curricula. This study group brings together faculty members from all academic divisions to work collaboratively in introducing and enhancing course content and pedagogy. Now in its 18th year, this workshop has helped close to 200 Dickinson faculty members connect the subject areas of their teaching with sustainability using active learning pedagogies such as place-based & experiential education since 2008! Dickinson's first year dorm, Drayer, is collecting pots and pans to have as a communal resource for students through Eco Reps. This student led initiative aims to make cooking more accessible to students in the building.

Please consider donating kitchen supplies such as pots, pans, baking sheets, mixing bowls, utensils, spatulas and more.

Collection will be right after spring break (March 15-21) so any items you find during spring cleaning can be repurposed for student use rather than sent to waste.

Collection bins will be present near the Kaufman library and the first floor kitchen of Drayer.

Kaufman building address: 400 W. North Street
- library located by office for sustainability near DPS office
