H. Laddie Montague Jr. Chair in Law and Associate Dean for Research and Strategic Partnerships Daryl Lim’s recently published Oxford University Press book, Inclusive Innovation in the Age of AI and Big Data, co-edited with Professor Peter K. Yu, was the subject of an in-depth review on the Comparative Patent Remedies blog.

The review describes the volume as a “foundational text” that gives scholars, practitioners, and policymakers tools to design more equitable and inclusive innovation systems. The volume brings together 15 chapters examining how intellectual property law, artificial intelligence (AI), and innovation policy can better account for disparities in access, participation, and technological opportunity.

Professor Stephen F. Ross left his Sports Law class on September 1 trying to recall a better teaching experience in his 41-year career (the last 21 at Penn State Dickinson Law).

This year’s class theme is a comparison of the chaos in American college football and in global soccer. Class No. 3’s specific focus was on European soccer. Modern technology allowed his Sports Law students, including American J.D. candidates and LL.M students from Spain, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Colombia, to hear from three Spanish sports law titans: Professor Sergio Gonzalez Garcia from the University Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid; Professor Miguel Cardenal Carro, who served as the Minister of State for Sports in the Spanish government a decade ago; and Dr. Emilio Garcia Silvero, FIFA’s chief legal and compliance officer.

Laddie Montague Jr. Chair in Law and Associate Dean for Research and Strategic Partnerships Daryl Lim provided legal analysis to Reuters on Meta’s agreement to pay up to $16.68 billion and make significant changes to Facebook and Instagram to resolve claims brought by states across the United States concerning harms to children. Associate Dean for Research and Strategic Partnerships Daryl Lim moderated a plenary session at the Global Forum on Intellectual Property during Singapore IP Week 2026. The session, “Litigate, Regulate or Co-Create? Building a New Paradigm for IP in the Age of AI,” brought together senior leaders from technology, industry, the creative sector, and international intellectual property (IP) organizations to consider how IP law should respond to artificial intelligence.

Lim structured and led the discussion around four major questions confronting policymakers and businesses: the appropriate balance among courts, regulation, markets, and collaborative governance; the legal framework for AI training, licensing, and safeguards; how law should identify meaningful human contribution to AI-assisted creation; and the implications of AI-assisted invention for inventorship, prior art, and the patent system. The discussion was especially timely because Singapore had announced a new public consultation on AI, copyright, and patents immediately before the panel.

Penn State Dickinson Law's Hannah Wiseman, Michael Helbing, and Mohamed Rali Badissy led ordinance database research and compilation efforts for the Penn State Center for Energy Law and Policy Pennsylvania solar ordinance database. The database includes filters for a variety of provisions in local government ordinances addressing grid-scale solar development and is available to the public free of charge. The database contains 4,900 ordinance provisions from 300 local governments across 57 counties.
