The Office of Education Abroad recognizes Dr. Danilo Madayag Baylen, an internationally renowned professor at the University of West Georgia. Dr. Baylen is a tenured Full Professor of Instructional Technology and School Library Media in the Department of Educational Technology and Foundations, College of Education. Dr. Baylen joined the department as a tenure track associate professor in 2007 and is starting his 16th year at the University. Since his arrival, he has demonstrated outstanding dedication and service to the University. The University of West Georgia recently announced Dr. Baylen as the institution’s first Fulbright U.S. Scholar. Dr. Baylen looks forward to changing location by teaching in the Philippines in 2023 to work with undergraduate and graduate students at West Visayas State University (WVSU). At the beginning of the pandemic, he partnered with a colleague at the West Visayas State University (Philippines) to provide authentic experiences for learning design and development to graduate students. According to Dr. Baylen, the inspiration for this work lies in the significance and value of creating environments where students, separated by distance and differentiated by culture, could learn from each other and develop global learning skills such as communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. “My goal is for American students to experience how their work could impact others located on the side of the world even though they have not met,” Baylen said. We are honored to have Dr. Baylen at UWG.
