The M.Ed. in Professional Counseling is designed for graduate students preparing for employment as professional counselors in schools, clinical mental health agencies, and colleges or universities or for careers in college student services in colleges and universities. Three options of study, School Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling (formerly Community Counseling), and College Student
Affairs, are available. The School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling (formerly Community Counseling) programs are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Educational Related Programs (CACREP). The School Counseling program requires a minimum of 60 semester hours (2.5 years of full time study), and the Clinical Mental Health Counseling (formerly Community Counseling) program requires a minimum of 60 semester hours (3 years of full time study). The College Student Affairs program consists of a minimum of 42 semester hours and adheres to CAS standards. A student will receive faculty endorsement only for the relevant option and plan of study completed. During Academic Year 2020/2021, the University of West Georgia M.Ed. in Professional Counseling (Clinical Mental Health) had 79 active majors and 24 graduates. Our graduates consistently achieve high pass rates on the national counselor preparation, licensing, and certification examinations. Of the reported scores, our graduates achieved the following pass rates on the 2020-2021 administrations of the National Counselor Examination (NCE): 90%. Of the admitted students to the CMHC program, we have a completion rate of approximately 92% and a job placement rate of approximately 93%. in Professional Counseling (School Counseling) had 25 active majors and 23 graduates. Of the reported scores, our graduates achieved the following pass rates on the 2020-2021 administrations of the GACE School Counseling Content Tests I & II: 100%. Of the admitted students to the School Counseling program, we have a completion rate of approximately 100% and a job placement rate of approximately 95%.
