Jaden (Luke) Hinson

Graduated in 2022 from Castleton Biology: Molecular biology and Biomedicine and a minor in Chemistry

After graduating on a Saturday, that following Monday I drove to Texas for an adventure. I live here with my husband and my dog Arvo. In Texas I found a love for dermatology. I spent the last several years working as a MOHS technician for a board certified MOHS surgeon/Dermatologist. MOHS surgery is a process to remove skin cancer to verify it has all been removed.

The technician process the tissue while the patient remains in the clinic so you need to be quick and thorough. This process includes working with any piece of skin cancer the surgeon brings you and creating 6-8 micron thick pieces of skin cancer to be read under a microscope. Although its skin cells, my time staining in microbiology and my time at Castleton helped me properly support the surgeon and in turn, our patients. Outside the laboratory, I was also able to learn about the largest organ of the body, the skin, and how to properly take care of it and know when to talk to a medical professional. I will say, sunscreen is a lot easier to apply than have a procedure to remove cancer on your nose, ear or even eyelid. If anyone has any questions about working in the dermatology field, please reach out!

Bruce Waite

December 17, 2002- March 22, 2025.

We lost a kind soul too soon this weekend. When the news of Bruce’s passing began to reach everyone yesterday morning, Jeffords turned into a somber place.

If you knew Bruce, this was a shocking announcement. Bruce was smart, kind, inquisitive, talkative, all of the positive adjectives you could use to describe a person.

He provided a unique perspective to every class discussion. Sometimes on topic, sometimes not. He would talk to you like you were his longtime friend, even if you had never met him before. He would probably tell you something about chainsaws, or chickens, or refrigerator coolant, or Labrador pedigrees, or…

It is never easy to lose someone, but losing someone young, with unlimited potential is especially difficult.

So, keep everyone at Castleton in your thoughts during this difficult time. Students, faculty, staff, friends, family, everyone is dealing with a heavy heart. There is physically a missing piece in Jeffords now.

Our condolences to the Waite family at this time.

Keep an eye on everyone you care about.

Tashaw Woodward Hesketh

Graduated with a BA in Health Science in 2014 from Castleton. Where I was able to be apart of the science association and assist with ordering department shirts. Then went onto Sage Graduate Schools where I graduated in 2017 with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. After passing my licensing exam I have been working at Rutland Regional Medical Center for 7 years. I work primarily in outpatient but also float up to acute care. I married my husband at Lake Bomoseen Lodge in 2021, who is also a Castleton Alum (see the alum pic). We recently had our Son in 2023 and he enjoys visiting me at work on my lunch breaks.

Great question. Dr. Mango and Garcia are asking why.

A student walks into an Effective Speaking class wearing a gray hoodie with a dark green decal stuck to the front that reads “Castleton Spartans” as the brave, capped Spartan is perched above the letters. “Reese, where did you get that sweatshirt!” VTSU Castleton student Ines Robres Peireto ...
