Southwest Virginia Paramedic Program

Southwest Virginia Paramedic Program Nationally-accredited EMS training program in Southwest Virginia offering courses from EMT level through Paramedic, as well CE and ancillary courses.

The Southwest Virginia Paramedic Program is a nationally-accredited EMS training program hosted at five different sites across the southwestern portion of the Commonwealth. The flagship site of the program is at Southwest Virginia Community College, and the other sites include Mountain Empire Community College in Big Stone Gap; Virginia Highlands Community College in Abingdon; Wytheville Community

College; and the Crossroads Institute in Galax. Courses are offered in initial certification and continuing education for all levels of basic and advanced life support, as well as bridge programs for RNs and other licensed healthcare providers. The Program draws students from all over Southwest Virginia, as well as from bordering regions of Kentucky, West Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Students are afforded the opportunity to participate in a number of clinical rotations as there are standing agreements with many hospital systems and EMS agencies across the Commonwealth, as well as in other states.

🚨Summer EMT Class🚨

We are excited to announce the next offering of our EMT classes at the SWCC-Lebanon Center and Wytheville Community College, beginning May 2026!

There are several pathways for funding for this course so most students will pay little to nothing out of pocket and may receive a residual refund check to cover other costs (travel expense, uniform, etc.) associated with course completion. No up-front deposit is required to enroll.

We are excited to announce a new course offering for Advanced EMT certification at the SWCC-Lebanon Center, beginning January 16th, 2026! This course will meet weekly on Fridays, 9a-4p, and most all clinical time is self-scheduled with many agencies and facilities throughout the region.

There are several pathways for funding for this course, even for students who may not qualify for traditional financial aid.
