Congratulations to cellist Lee Prostine who was awarded the Paul S. Ray and Eleanor Taylor Prize. This prize is awarded to the sophomore Bachelor of Music major at Coe College “whose own talent, unstinting study and practice, and serious dedication to high quality music most clearly approaches those qualities sought in their students by Professors Ray and Taylor.” The award consists of a $1,000 prize, presented at the Honors Convocation at the end of the Junior Year, and is renewed for an additional $1,000 during the senior year (presented at the Honors Convocation during graduation week), provided the student continues to demonstrate the promise and dedication for which the prize was originally awarded.

Today Chris Threlkend-Wiegan of Heartland Bass came and presented to Coe string students about his innovative tailpiece and end pin designs. His basses are played by some of the finest bassists in the country. He also brought his second cello that he recently made and both student Lee Prostine and Dr. Zeidieh played it with different end pins to see how they sounded. Thank you so much for sharing your time and talent with Coe students, Chris!
