The New York Bar Foundation is pleased to announce the 2025 Judge Bernard S. Meyer Scholarship. Established in 2004 by the law firm, Meyer, Suozzi, English & Klein, P.C., the scholarship will be awarded to a law school student who excels in legal writing and advocacy skills.

The scholarship is open to all second-year (2L) students as of spring 2025 semester enrolled in a law school in the State of New York. The scholarship is valued at $5,000 and will be awarded to one (1) student. The scholarship will be applied to the student’s tuition and/or academic related expenses (i.e. room and board and cost of law books) for the 2025-2026 academic year.

The deadline date for essay submission is Friday, April 18, 2025. The scholarship recipient will be announced in June 2025. For more information see below.

Chief Judge Laura Taylor Swain is pleased to announce that the Southern District of New York is accepting applications for the Honorable Charles L. Brieant, Jr. Judicial Fellowship for the summer of 2025. The Honorable Charles L. Brieant, Jr. Judicial Fellow will work under the supervision of the Judge to research and write about issues that confront the Court as a whole.

The fellowship, administered through the Foundation, provides a $5,000 tuition credit paid directly to the law school of the student selected to serve as the Honorable Charles L. Brieant, Jr. Fellow to the Court during the summer of 2025. Both first-year and second-year law students are encouraged to apply.

The National Black Law Students Association is excited to announce the 2025 NBLSA Nelson Mandela Pre-Law Scholarship! This scholarship honors Nelson Mandela, the renowned South African civil rights activist and political leader.

The scholarship is awarded to three (3) African-American college students/graduates who plan to enter law school in the United States in the Fall of 2025, 2026, 2027, or 2028. A monetary award of $5,000 for 1st place, $2,000 for 2nd place, and $1,000 for 3rd place, along with a certificate, will be given to each winning student.

The Suffolk County Bar Association is proud to announce the Hon. Theresa Whelan Scholarship Fund Annual Law Student Essay Contest. Established in 2023, the Hon. Theresa Whelan Scholarship Fund was created to honor the late Hon. Theresa B. Whelan, former Suffolk County Surrogate and Family Court Judge, by providing scholarships for students pursuing a career in law.

This year’s essay topic is: A woman who inspired you for a career in law or how you will inspire another woman for a career in the law.

To participate in the essay contest, students should send their entry application and essay of no more than 500 words to: [email protected]. Applications are due on March 30, 2025.

The Queens County Women’s Bar Foundation, Inc. (QCWBF) is pleased to announce the Faith O’Neal Scholarship. They will award two (2) scholarships for $2,500.00 at their Annual Judiciary Night, on November 19, 2024.

Eligible recipients are students enrolled at an ABA accredited law school that have completed their first full semester and are domiciled in Queens County or attend a law school in Queens County. The scholarship committee shall make its determination based on community service, financial need, academics and a written personal statement.

The Richard Linn American Inn of Court is proud to offer the Mark T. Banner Scholarship. This scholarship is part of The Richard Linn American Inn of Court's commitment to fostering the development of intellectual property lawyers of high ethics, civility and professionalism, and especially those from diverse backgrounds.

Law students who have entered into a JD program at an ABA-accredited law school in the United States and who will continue in that program through at least the Fall semester 2025 are eligible to apply for the Mark T. Banner Scholarship. The recipient of the Mark T. Banner Scholarship will receive $10,000 payable for the Fall 2025 semester of their second or third year of law school.

The Public Investors Advocate Bar Association (PIABA) would like to announce their 2024-2025 James E. Beckley Writing Competition. The PIABA sponsors this contest for papers touching on securities law and securities arbitration and will pay over $3,000 in awards to law students with prizes at $1,500, $1,000, and $750 for the top three entrants. The PIABA Bar Journal will publish the first-place paper and, in years past, has also made offers to publish other papers from the contest.

The competition is open to all students attending a law school in the United States. PIABA employees and externs (except for students working less than 20 hours per week) are not eligible to enter the competition.

The Latino Lawyers Association of Queens County is pleased to announce the 2024 Bar Study Scholarship. The Latino Lawyers Association was founded in 1997 to promote the general welfare and legal rights of the Latinx community by providing it with a voice through information, guidance, and education.

To be eligible to apply for the bar study scholarship, applicants must be graduating law students of Latinx descent and/or have made contributions to the Latinx community. Applicants must also be a resident of Queens County, NY or attend a law school located in Queens County, NY. The selected applicant must be available to attend the 27th annual gala on October 18, 2024, to receive the scholarship.

The Columbian Lawyers Association seeks to award up to two (2) scholarships to law students of Italian heritage attending law school in New York City and the Counties of Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester.

Any students enrolled in the full-time day/or part-time night study of law at an accredited law school are eligible to apply, from 1Ls through 4L evening students. Scholarship awardees will receive a check in the amount of $5,000 from the Association to be awarded at their annual holiday party to be held in December 2024 (date, time and location to be announced).

The awards include cash payments of $5,000, $3,500, and $1,500 respectively for the above categories, and a Certificate of Recognition from the College.

The New York Bar Foundation is pleased to announce the 2025 Elder Law and Special Needs Section T. David Stapleton Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was established through a gift from the Elder Law and Special Needs Section of The New York State Bar Association in honor of former Section Chair, T. David Stapleton.

The scholarship, with a value of $3,500, will be awarded to a second year (2L) or third year (3L) law student who is enrolled in a law school in the State of New York who has demonstrated an interest in the Elder Law and Special Needs practice area, and intends to practice in the field in Upstate New York following law school.
