So, as I ramp up for this year's Jack Stone Award for New Music, I'm thinking about how to make it sustainable. To say that this is my passion project is putting it lightly. There is no other national opportunity for JUST community college composers, and over the years, I have watched the recipients go on to have fabulous futures as composers. But each year might be the last, because we just don't have enough funding to be sure we can make it to the next year. Paying professional musicians what they should be paid is important to me, and the in-person experience the students have together is priceless.
If you have ever been to one of our awards concerts, you know how amazing and special they are.
