Glen Oaks Community College, in partnership with St. Joseph County United Way , invites our campus and community to gather for a 9/11 Community Remembrance Ceremony.

On Friday, September 11, we will remember the lives lost and families impacted by the events of September 11, 2001, while recognizing the first responders, active-duty military personnel, and veterans who serve our communities and country.

The ceremony will include remarks from Glen Oaks President Dr. Bryan Newton, a community welcome from Kelly Hostetler of St. Joseph County United Way, a remembrance address from St. Joseph County Sheriff Chad Spence, a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., and a musical selection performed by Malashia Cain.

Glen Oaks Community College, in partnership with St. Joseph County United Way invites you to join us for a September 11 Community Remembrance Ceremony.

Friday, September 11, 2026
8:30–9 a.m.
Front Entrance Flagpole

Together, we will remember the lives lost and families impacted on September 11, 2001, honor those who answered the call to serve, and recognize the first responders, active-duty military personnel and veterans in our community.

The ceremony will include remarks from Glen Oaks President Dr. Bryan Newton, St. Joseph County United Way’s Kelly Hostetler and St. Joseph County Sheriff Chad Spence. A moment of silence will be observed at 8:46 a.m., followed by a musical selection performed by Malashia Cain.

Light refreshments will be available following the ceremony. Attendees are invited to remain, connect with members of our campus and community, and thank the first responders, veterans and military personnel joining us.

Want to represent Glen Oaks Community College, connect with future students and families, and make an impact on campus and in the community?

Applications are open for the Student Ambassador Scholarship.

Student Ambassadors support the Admissions Office through campus tours, recruiting events, visitation days, College Fair, office functions, and other campus and community events.

The scholarship provides $300 per semester for up to two semesters each academic year and may be renewed for a second year if all eligibility and maintenance requirements are met.

Eligibility requirements include:

- A 3.0 GPA based on the applicable high school, transfer college, or Glen Oaks record
- Enrollment in at least 6 credit hours each semester the scholarship is received
- Attendance at mandatory orientation and training
- Completion of at least 15 Student Ambassador hours per semester, including training, meetings, and recruiting events

Applications are due September 4, 2026, at noon.

Today’s Viking Social brought students together for food, fun, and connection at Glen Oaks Community College.

Students enjoyed a free lunch, spent time with friends, and learned more about the clubs, services, and resources available to help them make the most of their college experience.
