This award recognizes faculty who have made especially significant contributions of leadership and service to their home unit or the college, or to agencies, schools, communities, businesses, or other external groups or individuals.

Andrew's nominator had this to say: "Andrew's most sustained excellence comes from running our graduate programs. He's a model simply for the real selflessness with which he's gone about serving all of us -- students, colleagues, college, university, the discipline, and scholars of color.”

Today we are celebrating professor Kelley Lemon! Not only is she the recipient of the College Award for Excellence in Community and Public Engagement, but she has also been awarded the 2026 CAMPUS Emerging Award for Excellence in Public Engagement!! 🎆

Kelley's nominator stated the following: "We are incredibly proud of professor Lemon’s accomplishments and recognize her extraordinary capacities as a scholar, publicly engaged researcher, teacher/mentor, and colleague. Her participatory approach—built on reciprocity, respect, and long-term relationships—presents a model for ethical, community-driven research at Illinois. It has strengthened trust between the university and the public, and she is an incredibly valuable part of our college.”

We have some great news to kick off the summer...

The College of Fine and Applied Arts is pleased to announce Andrew Friedman as the next head of the Department of Theatre! 🎭

His appointment will begin August 16, 2026, pending approval by the Board of Trustees.

An internationally recognized theatre artist, scholar, and educator, Friedman brings decades of experience in performance, research, and higher education leadership.

Please join us in welcoming Drew to the University of Illinois community!
