Looking to level up your class performance? ✨Free✨ Peer Tutoring at the Learning Center is here to support you in 115+ UNC courses this semester! 🧠📝⁠

For currently-enrolled undergraduates, the Learning Center offers Peer Tutoring by appointment Sunday–Friday in SASB North and remotely via Zoom. ⁠
⁠
Peer Tutoring appointments (and walk-ins!) are also offered on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 6–8 PM in-person in Dey Hall and remotely via Zoom! (Walk-ins to Dey Hall are welcome subject to tutor availability.)⁠

Our tutors are undergraduate students who received high grades in the classes they tutor and who are trained in effective tutoring strategies prior to working with students. 💯⁠

Many graduate programs, internships, etc. may require an application essay or personal statement to apply, but what really goes into writing an effective application essay?⁠
⁠
Before you write, take some time to look over the instructions. What questions are they asking? What is the required format?⁠
⁠
Think about the field and program and what is drawing you to it. Think about yourself! What details or anecdotes would you want to bring up? What makes you stand out?⁠
⁠
Try freewriting for 15-30 minutes. Look over what you have written. Find what feels most relevant, memorable, or concrete and focus on that. Make sure you are answering the question or prompt!⁠
What would you want the reader to know? What is going to keep their attention and show who you are!⁠
⁠
When you write, use an honest voice and represent yourself as naturally as possible. It may help to think of the essay as a sort of face-to-face interview!⁠
⁠
Once you have a draft, have several people read it. Revise the essay, then rinse and repeat! When you feel confident about your content, it’s time to proofread (and proofread and proofread).⁠

Hi everyone! My name is Emma and I am a Peer Tutor here at the Learning Center. I am a junior double-majoring in Economics and Political Science with a minor in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE). I tutor various courses including economics, statistics, and Spanish. My favorite part of tutoring is helping students build confidence as they work through challenging concepts and watching them succeed in their classes. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy reading, figure skating, and spending time with friends. I can't wait to meet you at the Learning Center!⁠
