UNC Healthy Heels

UNC Healthy Heels Collaborating to keep UNC healthy with Campus Health, CAPS, Student Wellness and Campus Rec. Health and wellness are tied to community and environment.

Healthy Heels are all of us - people whose decisions impact our own wellness and the health of the UNC-Chapel Hill community. As a brand, we’re a collaboration between y’all and the students and staff at Campus Health, Student Wellness, Counseling & Psychological Services, the Heels Care Network, and Campus Recreation - working as a team to create a healthier campus. We use research to help us un

derstand the best ways to support health at UNC. Here’s what know and believe:
We all have the right to reach our fullest potential and thrive. So we take a public health approach. We don’t just ask people to change individual behavior; we also make it easier for folks to make healthy choices by changing the campus environment. Wellness is holistic and intersecting. Your health influences your ability to succeed in reaching your academic goals. Everybody is different - what works for one person might not work for you. To create a healthy community, we need to bring identity, equity and disparities to the front of our consciousness. Access to quality health care, mental health, wellness promotion and recreational services improves health. Many of these at UNC have already been paid for in your fees, so don’t wait if you’re in need. We’re here to help. We can’t do this alone! We need your help. You are a critical part of the health and wellness landscape at UNC! What you say and do influences your wellbeing as well as the wellbeing of those around you. Congratulations to Dr. DeVetta Holman-Copeland on receiving the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, one of North Carolina's highest honors!

Known affectionately as "Dr. D," she has dedicated over 40 years to supporting the health and wellbeing of UNC-Chapel Hill students. A two-time Carolina alumna, certified health and wellness coach, and proud NC A&T PhD graduate, Dr. D brings her whole heart to helping students build resilience, belonging, and empowerment.

Governor Stein presented her and eleven other North Carolinians with this well-deserved recognition on March 10.
