Carolina Mock Trial is a student-run, university-recognized organization at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill which prepares its members to compete in the tournaments of the American Mock Trial Association. Mock trial is an activity which teaches its participants about courtroom procedure and precedent, while refining their reasoning and public-speaking skills. Participants are asked

... to perform the parts of lawyers and witnesses on both the prosecution and defense sides of a fictional case, using materials supplied by AMTA. The participants then perform these roles against other universities' teams who have also prepared the same case.
